Charity begins at home

Analysis of recent claims history tells us that employment claims made by staff working in a charity/not for profit environment greatly exceed claims from all other sectors. Quite why this is we can only speculate but what may be regarded as big egos and a high knowledge of ‘rights’ also helps to explain higher claim trends in other occupations such as recruitment agencies and local authorities (many of whom could be regarded as uninsurable). Other ’hot spots‘ include:

  • Sexual Discrimination claims ? schools and academies
  • TUPE claims - out-sourced service companies in cleaning security
  • Breach of contract - IT companies, marketing
  • Financial advisers - Under FCA pressure to move from commission to salary based contract models
  • Legal defense (Health and Safety) - restaurants, engineers
